In many issues, there is not always a clear distinction between right and a wrong. In order to do the right thing, we always need to use good judgment to manage an issue or crisis. Having built experience through various project management roles, I have developed the necessary tools through having an objective view, by avoiding making quick decisions. I recall an experience where I felt under pressure
from external clients, personnel from other departments, and members
of my team to act and make a decision about missing a deadline
or changing the time schedule in advance. By escalating my concern to my manager who I felt was the best person to assist me in making the right decision. After a brief conversation with my manager, I gathered all necessary information to make an informed decision about moving the project deadline back to avoid failing in certain criteria. Building and retaining a good reputation with
this external client was critical not only to my career success
within the organisation but also to a long standing relationship
with this client. |
